The Scow Sailing

This photo clearly illustrates the use of leeboards.

The windward leeboard is raised, and on the far side of the boat can be seen the handle of the lowered lee leeboard.

If you compare this with the photo of the scow rigged ashore, you will see how much the gaff 'falls away' to leeward compared to the boom.

Never mind all that, aren't those carbon fibre spars lovely?…
