THE PUNT

This variant of the scow design has been prepared for someone who is interested in using the scow just as a rowing or punting boat.

See plan and profile drawing

The internal arrangement has been altered to:

The design has been generally simplified to make it easier to build as a lot of the structure in the scow is required to support the mast and centreboard loads.

The boat has been optimised for rowing, with a moveable centre thwart to keep the longitudinal balance right with one, two or three crew on board:

As the size of the bottom panel between the centre bulkhead and aft seat/tank has increased, and because a rowing boat is likely to be jumped about in more than a sailing boat, either the aft bottom panel will need be strengthened, or duckboards (floorboards) will need to be fitted.

As yet, the design has not been modified to suit the scow for punting (using a punt or quant pole) instead of rowing - to suit punting, a design with different proportions is probably required.
